We are excited to launch a new blog series about how to use social media and search engine optimization to grow your business.
The first thing we are going to start with is: How to generate more business from referrals on Facebook.
There are a few reasons why this is where we are going to start with this:
1. Facebook is the best method to go direct to consumer in today’s market.
2. It yields immediate results when you take action!
3. This created the foundation you need to grow your social marketing campaigns.
Why is using social media important for your business? Because social media is where your customers are, and in fact, they have gone social media crazy!
A recent study saw that 80% of smart phone users check their phones before brushing their teeth!
If you dive more into this study, it will also show you a few other surprizing things:
– 79% of adult smartphone users have their phones with them for 22 hours a day
– the average adult now spends 87 minutes communicating and using social media on their phones Monday through Thursday, and more than 160 minutes Friday through Sunday
At this point, what customers expect to be able to do, is to punch your name into Google or Facebook, and find out what people are saying about you.
Now, why does Facebook work so well? Facebook is a way to tap into the most powerful factor in today’s social economy, Social Proof!
When people who know, like and trust the person who is referring your business, they are more likely to do business with you. Just like the study above shows: 79% of Consumers Trust Online Reviews as much as a Personal Recommendation
So, how do we get these results? How do we get people talking about your business on social media?
Basically, it comes down to three steps:
1. Learn how to connect with your database and referral sources on Facebook
2. Template your initial response to new friends and referral sources
3. Discover the simple secret to making networking on Facebook incredibly easy
How to Connect with your Database and Referral Sources on Facebook
You’ll need to create a list of all your connections.
If you are a beginner, a handwritten list of contacts from memory is a great place to start. On one side of the page, write down all of your best past clients, the ones that you are probably still friends with now. On the other side of the page, write down your friends that you do business with. (for example, a realtor that refers clients to your mortgage business.)
Once you have your list, you’ll be able to go to your Facebook page, click on your Friend List, and then click Find Friends. At that point, search for and friend request everyone on your list.
If you are moderately established, you can connect with your contact list from your mail program.
To do this, sign into your Facebook, head over to your profile page, click on Find Friends and then you’ll see a section called Add Personal Contacts. Once you put in your email username and password, Facebook will pull up everyone who is in your email contact list. At that point, you’ll be able to choose, one by one, who you would like to send Friend Request to.
If you are advanced, you’ll be able to create a custom spreadsheet of past clients and referral sources.
The first few steps for this will be the same if you are advanced, however; once you get to Find Friends, click on the little mail box (shown below) and enter an email username and password (it doesn’t matter which email you choose here).
From here, Facebook will take you to a page that has a bunch of instructions on it. These instructions will lead you through how to upload a .csv file filled with your contacts from your CRM to Facebook.
Now that your friend requests are sent, what do we say when they connect with you?
After about 2 or 3 days, head back to Facebook and click on your Friends List. There will be a section that shows all of your Recently Added friends. Anyone that has connected with you, that was a past client, send them a private message. Here is an example template we recommend using below:
Hi First Name,
It’s great to connect! I’m newer to Facebook, but I’m looking forward to staying in touch.
The spring market will be heating up soon, if you know anyone that needs help with their _________, let me know! 000-000-0000
Now, this may seem like a very simple template, but we’ve tested it and it really works! All this message does is plant a little seed in their mind to remember you when they, or someone they know, is looking for a referral.
The Simple Secret to Making Networking on Facebook Easy
The final step in making Facebook networking a breeze, is to create a custom Facebook list where you can keep all of your past customers and referral partners. To do this, simply head back to your Friends List on Facebook and notice that beside each friend, there is a small box with the default “Friends”. If you click on that box, it will bring up a list of ways that you can categorize each person. Here you will create a list called “Clients” or “Customers” and a list called “Referral Partners”.
By engaging with this list every week, you’re name will stay top of mind with these people.
Once a week, when you log into your Facebook, you’ll be able to pull up each list that you’ve built and Facebook will create a custom newsfeed including only these people. Now, like, comment and share!
